Industrial Training institute for women, Manayilkulangara, Kollam, Kerala under the Directorate of Employment and training was initially set up in the year 1983 with 3 trades (Draughtsman Civil, Survey, Electronics Mechanic) and now stands as a premier edifice of modern education in our state. This institute is upgraded as First grade ITI under Centre of Excellence scheme funded by World Bank in the year 2007 starting new trade ‘Food Processing Cluster’. The land area of the institute is 84 cents and are covered for workshop, Administrative Block, etc..

Now, the Institute is imparting training in 39 units in 17 trades (NCVT and SCVT) including Food Processing Cluster. Trainees are admitted in the COE scheme in Broad Based Basic Training Module and Advanced Module. One unit of Post ITI course in TV Technician is also conducting in this institute.

As per the direction from the DG E&T to get better linkage with industries both from public and private, we have constituted IMC in the year 2006-07. To monitor the performance of the IMC, district level and state level steering committees are also functioning. The Chairman of the IMC is from industries and the convener is the Principal of the institute and other 4 members are from autonomous and private industries.


Based on the review of national standards and field assessment, an EMF has been developed for the project. Appropriate measures have been suggested and developed in the Environment Management Framework (EMF) to minimize and mitigate the likely adverse environmental impacts associated with the project.

Govt. of India decided to upgrade 100 ITIs in the country in to "Centre of Excellence" in the first phase in the FY 2005-2006 through domestic resources and 400 ITIs through World Bank Assistance.

I.T.I. FOR WOMEN, KOLLAM is among 400 ITI's in the country which has been selected by DGE&T(Directorate General of Employment & Training), Ministry of Labour & Employment, Government of India  for World Bank assistance Scheme-Up gradation of ITI's into "Centres of Excellence" for " Food Processing Sector" .
